Breast feeding mums!
A health care tip this is not….but a top tip it sure is!!
I’ve read this a million times online so on no level am I trying to claim credit but on baby number three it’s my first time to actually try it!
Wish I had given it a go much sooner! I really begrudge spending money on specific breast feeding tops because they are so expensive for what they are! I always say I’ll just make do with using a string top under a normal top but always get really annoyed and flustered when I’m trying to feed my baby when out and about as I seem to spend more time fiddling with tops trying to preserve my dignity and building up a panicked sweat than actually feeding my baby! The whole debacle leaves us both stressed out and a little traumatised!! I really don’t mind feeding in public at all but at the same time I don’t want to be flashing myself and everyone around me – despite what my family would say I’m actually quite shy (I can hear the laughter already!) and so really always want to be comfortable when feeding my baby and doing as little fussing at tops and bra straps as possible so as not to draw attention to myself! I’ve always ended up admitting defeat and dashing into H&M etc to pick up some nursing t shirts – which to be honest I don’t even like the look of!
So many times people have said online to try cutting a string top to wear under a normal low neck top so that feeding is easier and whilst I always thought – yes I must do that – I never actually did! Anyway I just wanted to write to encourage mums to give it a try and to show a picture of what your tops will look like – just cut a cheap string top so that it just reaches over your bra – then wear it over your bra and under a normal top. When it comes to feeding time you only have to reach inside (instead of fumbling the whole way down trying to pull the whole top up) and pull the short top up and your outer top down. This keeps your dignity in tact if like me you prefer to have something over your chest when feeding but hate messing with scarves! It also means when the feed is over it’s really easy to pop the short top back down inside your normal top rather than trying to get it back the whole way down!
Although it is important to remember to tuck it back down…. I almost answered the door to the airtricity man the other day with it up leaving my bra exposed…. When I say almost…. Anyway – enough about that!
So as I said – this is old news and if I had just done it on my first baby I would have saved myself a lot of grief – it’s just to let anyone who hasn’t come across the tip before know or anyone who has but hasn’t actually tried it – it’s worth getting the scissors out and attacking some cheap string tops!
